Why does EDP have a Trainee Program?

Each edition is a new opportunity for us to invite young talents from all over the world to join an outstanding Group and be an active part of one of the most compelling Trainee Programs in the market.

In a world of impossible ideas, these trainees can help us make them possible. Right now, at EDP, we are undergoing a period of deep transformation that will open a world of possibilities. Our 3D challenges are Decarbonization, by generating cleaner energy, Digitalization, by transforming us into a more digital utility and Downstream, by empowering consumers in our value chain.

Through EDP Trainee Program, we will give new talents the tools to develop themselves professionally and personally. They will also have the chance to get to know and influence different business areas and, in most cases, have an international mobility experience.

How many people will enter the EDP Trainee Program?

We will be looking for 30 exceptional trainees between the Business and Tech profiles, to start in January 2019.

What are the differences between the Business profile and the Tech profile?

This is a Program open to people from all nationalities and academic backgrounds, from which we expect to be able to acquire different types of knowledge and multiple life experiences.

Those who pursue the Business Profile will help our clients save to compete, manage investors relations, build smart home solutions, or even optimize strategic processes. These are just some of the possibilities through which you can make an impact on our business. Those who pursue the Tech profile should have technological skills and be passionate for digital endeavours. They will foster innovation on client-focused solutions, upgrade our cybersecurity, help us develop a robot to optimize processes or tackle intelligent mobility.

Can I apply to both profiles if I believe that I would suit them both?

Yes, you can! If you want to apply to both profiles please choose the Business profile application, and at the end, you will have the opportunity to answer some questions related to the Tech profile. Along the process, it will get to a point where you will have to decide if you want to be considered for the Business profile or if you think you are more suitable to the Tech profile. Nevertheless, if you know from the start which profile suits you best, just apply to that one!

How do I know if I need a Work Permit to be able to integrate the main locations of the Program?

Like the group of Trainees from the previous editions of the Program you also might have the possibility to get onboard an international experience stimulated by our job rotation scheme in locations such as Portugal, Spain or Brazil. In the case of Portugal, the EU/EFTA nationals only need to apply for a Residence Certificate if they are working in Portugal for longer than three months. Third-country nationals will need to apply for a Portuguese work visa at the embassy or consulate in their home country, once they have the work contract signed.

In the case of Spain, the EU/EFTA nationals have a similar process as in Portugal, meaning that for periods of residence of more than three months, individuals must register with the City Hall of the area where they are residing. Third-country nationals should also apply for a Spanish work visa at the embassy or consulate in their home country, once they have the work contract signed.

In the case of Brazil, Third-country nationals will need both a residence permit (either temporary or permanent) and a work visa (Autorização de Trabalho). The first step is made by your future employer in Brazil who will apply for a work permit at the Brazilian Ministry of Labour and Employment. After the application is allowed by the Ministry you will have to apply for a work visa at a Brazilian embassy or consulate in your home country.

Will you ask me about my grades?

Yes, we will ask you about your grade point average. This is information that we need to collect but it is not a key point in your application. For us a person is much more than the grade point average, she/he is the sum of multiple aspects. Nevertheless, since this is an element of reference and each country has a different grading system, we provide a table where you can see the equivalency of your grades to the Portuguese system. This way you can choose the correct option!

Will you ask me about my level of English? If so, how can I verify which is my level?

Yes, we are present in several parts of the world, which makes English fundamental. To make it easier for you and to guarantee that you know which level better describes you, we provide a small table with the description of each level. This applies not only to English but to any other languages, as we would love to know more about your communication skills!

As EDP is a Portuguese company, do I need to know Portuguese before applying?

No, it is not mandatory for you to know Portuguese to apply to EDP Trainee Program. Portuguese is one of the official languages of the company, so you should be open and committed to learn it to better communicate with your peers and colleagues and to feel completely integrated in the Company.

Can I already know what will be the main moments of the Recruitment Process?

The online application phase opens on 3rd September and closes on 5th October, but for you, it starts from the moment that you submit your application! After this, if you meet the criteria, in a couple of days you will be asked to do the Online Assessment and then if you pass this phase, shortly you will be invited to do a video interview. Once we’ve made our decision, those who we want to know better will be notified and invited to an Assessment Day.

The Assessment Days will take place during October in different geographies (Lisbon, Madrid and São Paulo). On that day candidates will be asked to present a short pitch, participate in two group dynamics and have an individual interview. A few weeks later, the selected candidates will be interviewed again, this time by people from the different Business Areas of the company. Please bear in mind that everyone will receive feedback, regardless if they progress from one phase to the next or not, so keep an eye on your e-mail!

If you are successful by the end of this process and every parties involved feel it’s a match, you will be invited to start this incredible journey with us by January 2019!

If due to special reasons I cannot be physically present in the Assessment Days, do I have other assessment alternatives?

Sure! We don’t want to miss your talent just because of that! Even if you are on a completely different continent you will still be assessed. Obviously, we would like to have the opportunity to meet you in person, but in case we can’t, there will be other ways to do it. Namely using a full digital solution in a way that you can be certain that the whole process is fair, so don’t worry about it.

Do I receive a salary during the EDP Trainee Program?

Yes, as a Trainee you will receive a competitive monthly base salary plus a food allowance! In addition, you will get benefits such as health insurance. Also, we will cover your travel expenses related to your possible international job rotations, in accordance to the company international mobility policy.

Can I expect to stay at EDP once the Program ends?

Yes, that is the main goal of the EDP Trainee Program. We invest to retain as we want you to continue your professional path with us! We have 90% of retention rate at the end of the Program when we invite our Trainees to a permanent position.
